"Culture - Nature" 🌱🏙️ I believe it matte "Culture - Nature" 🌱🏙️ I believe it matters how we perceive and how we talk about nature and culture. We tend to take the meanings of these words as given, but in fact they are quite blurry. The word "nature" in ancient Greek, Latin or Lithuanian(which is my native language) comes from "birth". But how we understand what it stands for has been changing throughout history. Nowadays we talk so much about protecting nature, but it is difficult to be completely sure what do we mean by that. Perhaps the most widespread idea is that nature is something opposite from human activities. But are we not nature? Are we not from this Earth, sharing our lives with interconnected cultures of nature? I say cultures of nature, because it is not only a word that describes human activities. It can also be used to describe a habitad with suitable conditions for growth. So if we are all linked in an intertwined network, should we not consider ourselves as part of the picture? And if we do so, then we should take care of ourselves and one another. And by that I mean taking care of all the parts that connect us together in this natural network. I call it "Whale Shark in an Interconnected Ocean of Life" 🌊🐋🦈 Whale sharks are the biggest fish out there in the world's oceans, also they are the friendliest sharks. They are also globally endangered and on the Red List of Threatened species, due to the growth of unsustainable whale shark tourism, as well as habitat loss or degradation in the form of overfishing, coastal development, land-based pollution, increased boat traffic and noise pollution. How is this relevant in the current context of war? It is yet another representation of the crisis we are facing - of our greed and inconsiderate behaviours, the cracks in our relationships. Relationships with human and non-human neighbours. While it is hard to keep calm while people in Ukraine are suffering, fighting and dying, or are forced to flee their homes, because they no longer have homes, because it is not safe to stay, because there is not much else to do... Hope is one of those things that keeps us going. When revising my artworks made a few months ago, I When revising my artworks made a few months ago, I find new meanings and connections with the current war in Ukraine. Because eventually it is all connected and when we think about sustainability of ecosystems, we tend to think about connection and collaboration, rather than disconnection and destruction. What we do on this Earth leaves marks that can never be erased and will affect the future. Just like the wars we fight, destroying cities, people and culture, eroding the structures of the natural network. Today is the last day of my exhibition in @munivea Today is the last day of my exhibition in @muniveartecontemporaneo and I am sharing a few more photos from the opening night two weeks ago. I hope this exhibition left a mark on someone or raised questions about human activities and their impact on the network of nature, as well as our contribution the wellbeing of this planet. I like how each exhibition marks a start of a new stage. I remember the exhibition I did over two years ago, I said to myself I will find more time to make art and I also said I will explore collages more. And that's what happened, in this exhibition I had not only many more collages, but also textiles found a way back into my artworks. Let's see what happens next. "Historias de la Tierra" or in other words "Earth "Historias de la Tierra" or in other words "Earth Tales" is my exhibition in @muniveartecontemporaneo gallery in Tlaxcala, Mexico - up until the 5th of February.
